Our Priorities
Our
Local Development Strategy describes what we plan to achieve by
2013. For projects to be considered they should align with the
priorities set out in the Strategy. The Norfolk Coast & Broads
priorities for the next three years are set out below;
Sustainable opportunities within the natural and
built environment
- Projects that help remove pressure on valued
environments by encouraging visitors to visit alternative locations
and market towns and by educating visitors about the sensitivity of
the environment.
- Centres of Excellence to demonstrate experience
and skills developed in environmentally friendly food supply,
efficient energy provision, use of wood fuel, waste handling and
rural business support.
Supporting efficient and effective water use,
storage and distribution for agriculture
- Agricultural projects that display best practice
in water usage, storage and distribution, providing sustainable
irrigation using up to date equipment and technology.
Supporting opportunities for the diversification
and modernisation of farming
- Projects that support the modernisation of farms
as they prepare for the future, specifically initiatives that
improve crop quality and nutrient management.
- Diversification out of agriculture into
sustainable tourism and other activities that can support farmers to
future proof their businesses.
Local food initiatives
- Projects that add value to local produce, improve
links along the supply chain and help consumers have a real
connection with local food.
Rural business infrastructure and staff retention
- Projects that identify innovative ways to house
businesses in rural areas and encourage use of underused facilities
and premises in order to support rural business start ups and
growth.
- Addressing issues surrounding staff retention in
rural businesses through improved accessibility to training,
mentoring and networking.
